LearnCube's Breakout Room feature is a great way to divide your students into rooms for individual or group work.
Making the Most of Them: Here's How
Create a Breakout Room: In the classroom, click on the breakout room icon on the right and then on "Create One Now".
Enter Details:
Enter the name of the breakout room.
Add the students who should be in it.
Select the type of room for your students.
Select "Load Whiteboard from Main Room" if you want to copy the current whiteboard content from the main class.
Choose whether to add a time limit for automatic return to the main room.
Create the Room: Click on Create. Your students will receive a request to join the room, which they must accept.
Managing Breakout Rooms:
Once your students have joined, the side panel will show that they are in their respective rooms. You can enter any breakout room when needed.
The side panel will show that your students are in their respective rooms once they've joined them, and you'll be able to enter any break-out room when you need to.
The Break-out Rooms panel displays the following information for each room:
Timer Indicator: This indicator shows the remaining time for the room if the teacher decides to use the new automatic timed Breakout Rooms option.
Bell Icon: Lights up to notify if a student has raised their hand.
Add Student Icon: Allows you to assign students to a particular breakout room, if they weren't previously added at the moment of creating the room.
Enter Icon: Allows teachers to enter the breakout room.
Reload Content Icon: Allows you to load the materials and class notes from that breakout room into your current room. Please note that this will overwrite any materials you have open.
Users in each room. (If the user left the room their icon will be greyed out).
Notes on Current Functionality:
To move a student from one breakout room to another, the student must return to the main room before being moved to another room.
If a student leaves their breakout room (and they're the only one in it), they cannot return to it. The teacher would need to create a new room for them.
The Breakout Rooms feature requires user accounts to authenticate users into different rooms, which is why it is only available for Online School customers at this stage.
New Breakout Room features designed to improve teachers' class management:
We are excited to introduce two new features to enhance your virtual classroom experience: Call All Students to the Main Room and Timed Breakout Rooms. These features are designed to make your teaching more efficient and engaging, especially when using our Breakout Room functionality.
1. Call All Students to the Main Room:
With a single click, this feature allows teachers to call all students back to the main room from their breakout rooms.
How to Use:
1. Go to the Breakout Rooms description panel and find the first room.
2. Look for the "Call All Students" arrow icon.
3. Click the icon to call all students back to the main room.
This feature ensures that you can bring everyone together quickly for important announcements, group discussions, or to wrap up the session.
2. Timed Breakout Rooms:
This feature allows teachers to set a predetermined duration for each breakout room session and monitor the remaining time from the main room.
How to Use:
Create Breakout Rooms: During your session, create breakout rooms as usual.
Set Duration: When setting up each breakout room, you will have the option to add a predetermined time duration for the session.
Monitor Time: From the main room, you can monitor the remaining time for each breakout room. This information will be displayed in the description panel of each breakout room.
Automatic Return: Once the set time is up, students will automatically be called back to the main room.
This feature helps manage time effectively and ensures smooth transitions between breakout sessions and main room activities.
