The Chinese firewall and how to teach into mainland China using LearnCube

We are asked this question fairly regularly and our long term goal is to help you teach in every country in the world, including China.

China currently has a firewall around the entire country for censorship reasons. The Firewall can stop users from sending images and live video into/out of China and is out of our control.

Changes in the last year have made it difficult, to near impossible, to use downloaded video conferencing platforms to teach into mainland China including Zoom, Google Meet, Skype and Teams.

Luckily, at the time of writing this article, browser-based platforms like LearnCube work much better and have the advantages of better branding opportunities, convenience, and updates are automatic & instant.

However, due to the unpredictability of the Chinese Firewall, we still highly recommend users (including students) inside of mainland China to use LearnCube with a VPN as a backup.

Furthermore, with so many new changes in regulations in China, we also recommend teachers consider other markets outside of China that still have huge opportunities and more predictable technical environments.

Note: If using LearCube in China, similar to any real-time communication service, our team has limited options to troubleshoot support issues and will not be able to verify Firewall related issues.
